Patient Support Program for Specialty Drugs
For some of the drugs that require prior authorization, we apply our specialty drug Preferred Pharmacy Network (PPN) Program.1 Once you are approved for a specialty drug, your PPN care coordinator will contact you to provide you with your preferred pharmacy options based on treatment locations in your area, and provide any other support services required.
What preferred pharmacies are in the program?
Specialty drugs must be purchased at a pharmacy that is in our pharmacy network in order to be eligible for coverage under the RBC Insurance plan. Chances are you may already be using a pharmacy that is in our network. If not, your PPN care coordinator will provide assistance with locating a pharmacy that will be right for you. The network pharmacies include:
- Shoppers Drug Mart and Shoppers Specialty Health Network
- Loblaws (chains with pharmacies owned by Loblaws, including Zehrs, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore)
- Safeway
- Lawtons Drugs
- Sobeys
- Some hospital pharmacies
- Some independent pharmacies in rural and remote areas
- Outpatient pharmacies in select regional cancer centres
What does this mean for you or your dependent?
There is potential to save on out-of-pocket expenses being paid for specialty drugs. Free delivery of medication is available, if required, directly to a treatment location or any other address. The dispensing of medication can be coordinated with treatment appointments and adherence support services to help ensure that medication is being taken as prescribed.
1) Not available in Quebec. Drug plans with maximums of $10,000 or less are not eligible for the PPN program.
