The medical questionnaire contains questions that you must answer correctly at the time you apply. Your medical condition at the time you complete the medical questionnaire determines your plan eligibility, the terms of coverage and the premiums that apply to you. Your completed medical questionnaire forms part of your insurance contract.
Yes, if condition(s) have been stable for 90 days before the effective date of the coverage
Dependent on the TravelCare category for which you are eligible (Click here for details.)
Any pre-existing condition(s) must be stable for a specific period of time before the effective date of your policy in order to be covered in the event of a claim.
For insurance purposes, stable is defined as any medical condition or related condition (including any heart or lung condition) for which there have been:
no new treatment, new medical management, or new prescribed medication; and
no change in treatment, change in medical management, or change in medication; and
no new symptom or finding, more frequent symptom or finding, or more severe symptom or finding experienced; and
no new test results or test results showing a deterioration; and
no investigations or future investigations initiated, or recommended for your symptoms; and
no hospitalization or referral to a specialist (made or recommended).
You can purchase coverage for a single trip up to the number of days specified above. If you travel more than twice a year, you may want to consider the Multi-Trip Annual Medical Coverage option instead.
Available age 60-74 with eligibility requirements2
If you are under 40 years of age and travelling for more than 183 days and to a maximum of 365 days, you may purchase the Single Trip Coverage, or "top-up" your Multi-Trip Annual Medical Coverage, provided that you are covered under your government health insurance plan for the full duration of your trip. If you are 40 years of age or older and under 75 years of age, you must also correctly answer the medical questionnaire, which will determine whether or not you are eligible to purchase coverage for trips beyond 183 days. (When you "top-up" your coverage, you add to your insurance beyond the duration originally covered.)
Do you travel more than twice a year? Our Multi-Trip Annual Medical Coverage option can make travelling more cost-efficient since you are covered for any trips you take (each up to the chosen duration) within a 365-day period.
9, 16, 30 or 60 consecutive days
(30- and 60-day option for 79 years or younger only)
With a Multi-Trip Annual Plan, you can choose the trip duration option that meets your needs. Each covers an unlimited number of trips within a 365-day period and each individual trip may be up to the number of consecutive days you chose. You can also "top-up" coverage for an individual trip if it will be longer than the maximum duration you selected. (When you "top-up" your coverage, you add to your insurance beyond the duration originally covered.)
Emergency Medical insurance pays for expenses related to a covered emergency medical condition that arises while you are on your trip. Benefits may include coverage for a hospital stay; transportation by a ground or air ambulance; the return to your departure point; emergency dental treatment; a companion's travel to your bedside; the return of a vehicle, your children, your travelling companion, your dog or cat, and your excess baggage if you are returned by air ambulance; and more.
The Subsistence Allowance benefit reimburses you up to the benefit amount as stated above for commercial accommodations and meals, essential telephone calls and taxi fares if, upon a physician's advice, you or your travelling companion are relocated or delayed beyond your return date to receive medical treatment for an emergency medical condition covered under this insurance.
If you have a medical emergency while on your trip, one toll-free phone call puts you in touch with a multilingual coordinator who can help you—24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our multilingual professionals will coordinate on your behalf with a local doctor or nurse to arrange the care you need.
The deductible is the dollar amount you would be responsible for paying for each claim, before any remaining eligible expenses are reimbursed under this insurance. Choosing a higher deductible option, where available, lowers your premium.
