Kate’s Story

Kate: Before I, you know, could even think about it, a car just made a left turn right in front of me, and all I could think of was “I can’t stop in time.”

Slate: Kate and her fiancé slammed into the other car.

Kate: It sort of just sinks in that “ok this is kind of big here you know.” If you’ve never been in an accident you have no idea really. It was… it was pretty intense. I sat there for a little bit and then called my mom and told her what happened.

Candace: I said, “well I don’t know what to do.” I said, “call RBC Insurance and ask them what to do?”

Slate: RBC Insurance’s Leah MacDougall took the call.

Leah: Every beep on that telephone is an adrenaline rush because you don’t know what you’re going to hear on the other line.

Kate: I said, “I’ve been in an accident, I don’t know what to do?”

Leah: She was anxious because she was calling from the scene of an accident. I helped calm her down by explaining to her what would happen and finding out if she was ok.

Kate: They just focused on us. I didn’t feel like I was just, you know, calling a call centre. I felt like I was calling like an angel to come and help me so.

Leah: Between the initial phone call coming in, and the tow truck getting there, probably about a ten minute span.

Slate: RBC Insurance delivered a rental car to the scene.

Kate: And that was it, I mean they showed up, and gave us the rental cars and said “well, you know as soon as your done with the police you can go home.”

Slate: Natasha Pinto followed up.

Candace: Natasha called me on Monday morning, which was a pretty fast turn around, because the accident happened at four fifteen on a Saturday afternoon.

Natasha: She did tell me that her daughter was feeling a little bit of pain, and had stiffness in her neck and her back.

Candace: She had been to the hospital on Saturday night, and she checked out fine, but her neck was very sore.

Natasha: So I took a couple of details from her with respect to the injuries.

Candace: Within a couple of hours somebody was at the house, making a very detailed report on Kate’s injuries.

John: She did require treatment, and I was able to help her find, you know a treatment facility, and call them before I left.

Kate: Within the hour they called me, and made an appointment for the next day for physiotherapy, so I was quite surprised at that.

Slate: Within a few days the file was closed.

Kate: It seemed too easy, that’s why I think my parents were kind of shocked.

Candace: I mean for the accident to happen on Saturday night at four o clock, and have a cheque in my hand by Wednesday at six o’clock. I’d say well that’s pretty speedy turn around. Everything was done for her and for us by RBC, so that was very reassuring.

Slate: Teamwork and efficiency make the difference.

John: I try to treat every person I meet as though they were a family member, or a friend. The quicker we can resolve they’re claim for them, the quicker they can move forward and get on with life.

Natasha: I think it’s awesome that it’s, we have such a good team and I don’t think we would be where we are if we didn’t have the teamwork that we have.

Kate: They’ve proven that you know, they’re really going to take care of you, and when you need them, they’re going to be there.
