Do you know what’s included in your car insurance policy?

Getting ready to purchase car insurance? Too often, consumers don’t know what they’ve actually purchased until it’s too late – when they’re about to make a car insurance claim.

There are many things to consider before purchasing a car insurance policy. Your insurance advisor can help you understand what policy features are available to help ensure you avoid any surprises at the time of a claim.

Here are some things you may want to keep in mind when shopping for a car insurance policy:

  • Free valet service. If you’re in an accident and a temporary replacement vehicle has been arranged, a valet service will bring the replacement vehicle to you at either the accident site, or even your home or workplace, while your car is being repaired, and then deliver your vehicle back to you when the repairs are completed.
  • 24 hour, seven days a week direct claims service. If you have an accident at two in the morning, you’ll want to make sure there’s always someone available to speak with you directly, not just an answering service.

Some other options that you may want to consider that may help you reduce your expenses if you have to make a claim are:

  • Replacement value option. If you purchase a new vehicle, this option guarantees that no depreciation will be applied for 24 months. This means when you have to settle a claim to cover a loss or damage to your vehicle, the depreciation of your car is not taken into account and you’ll be entitled to the full replacement value of your vehicle.
  • Accident protection benefit. This forgives the driver for their first at-fault accident and is a great way to protect your premium.
