When any member of a family is seriously ill, it takes a significant toll on the whole family. And while Canada’s universal healthcare system provides you with access to treatment in your immediate area, what if there is more advanced treatment in another province or even another country? How can you be sure that you or your loved one is getting the best possible healthcare information available?
There is an option, though you may not have heard of it before. It’s called “Best Doctors®* services.” Best Doctors provides the resources and support you need to help you feel confident you’re receiving the best medical information available in the world. Here’s how Best Doctors can help.
If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a serious illness, you may be unsure what to do next. You’re likely to have lots of questions – about the diagnosis, your treatment options and potential outcomes. Your doctor is one valuable source of advice, but with Best Doctors, you also have access to the knowledge of top experts around the world.
Best Doctors maintains a network of more than 50,000 doctors worldwide who are recognized as being the best in their field. Through their InterConsultation™ process, a team of physicians affiliated with Harvard Medical School will analyze your medical information, with a second review undertaken by a Best Doctors expert who specializes in your condition. Together, they will make sure nothing has been overlooked.
The Best Doctors expert will then provide you with a written report which confirms your diagnosis and offers treatment options based on their analyses and consultations. Sharing these results with your doctor will help you make a fully-informed decision about your treatment, so you’ll feel confident that you’re getting all the advice and information that you need. If you do need a specialist, Best Doctors can provide you with a list of top physicians who specialize in your condition, including those in your geographic area.
Through the InterConsultation process you will also receive ongoing support from a dedicated Best Doctors Member Advocate, and a Registered Nurse will be assigned to your case, to help you through the process and act as your liaison with the doctors reviewing your case, keeping you informed about its progress.
Best Doctors service is offered under select critical illness insurance coverage or can be purchased as a standalone product. It may be offered under your employment group benefits plan — so ask your employer.
Best Doctors services can help deliver certainty when you are facing uncertainty about your health. For more information, please contact a licensed insurance advisor or your financial planner.
