“Cancelled” doesn’t have to be your clients’ final destination

Your clients call you the day of their trip to tell you they have to cancel because of a medical emergency. They’re upset because they are in the middle of an emergency, won’t be taking a much-anticipated trip, and now have to worry about getting their money back. How do you reassure them?

It can be a challenging phone conversation. How can you avoid having to tell them the bad news that they may have lost their travel investment on top of everything else?

We made it easy for travel agent Sandy Martens to help a couple who had to cancel their cruise. The couple was scheduled to depart for China on a Yangtze River cruise when they had to cancel their plans because of medical problems.

They were worried that they would not get their money back, because their cruise was 100% non-refundable. They called their travel agent, Sandy.

Sandy took it upon herself to send all of their information immediately to the RBC Insurance® claims office. Within seven days, the couple had a cheque in their hands — with no additional questions or follow-up forms. Her clients were so pleased with this fast and reliable service that they now make sure to protect all their trips.

When you sell your clients trip cancellation and interruption insurance from RBC Insurance, it’s important for them to know that if they have to cancel because of a covered event, they may be entitled to get up to 100% of the non-refundable portion of their trip back, plus have access to experienced claims staff.

What coverage does trip cancellation insurance provide? Trip cancellation offered by RBC Insurance covers up to 40 events that could cause your clients to cancel their trip. These include an emergency medical condition, complications of a pregnancy or adoption, transfer, termination or layoff from employment, delay or cruise cancellation, jury duty and many more.

Even a client whose flight is delayed may be eligible for reimbursement of the cost of transportation to his or her next destination, including hotel room and meals, if needed.

Trip interruption insurance is designed to cover clients in case they need to come home early from their trip because of an emergency — either something has happened to them while travelling or to a loved one back home. We may help them find a flight home. Because emergencies happen around the clock, help is only a phone call away, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Assistance and claims staff provide a wide range of services, which include: making arrangements for proper medical care, translating languages, securing safe travel home, ensuring loved ones are looked after and helping clients claim their expenses in a timely fashion.

The next time your clients book with you, make sure they have trip cancellation and interruption insurance.
